Thailand March 31st - April 14th 2007

Well here is a trip that should not be missed.  After a very successful trip to Thailand back in 2000, we’ve decided it would be great to return after so long.  For those of you that have not been to Thailand before we have put together some notes regarding the details of this holiday.

Travel and Accommodation

There are two options of both travel and accommodation.

One option includes a non stop flight with Thai Air directly to Bangkok, with a short delay before the connecting flight with Thai Air to Krabi Airport which is our destination.  A short transfer from the airport to the resort through some wonderful jungle terrain.  The accommodation will be in a small resort with  detached bungalows, with large twin room/Lounge, and an suite shower room. Each bungalow is set in its own grounds surrounded by tropical plants allowing full privacy.

The second option includes  flying with Turkish Air, stopping in Turkey for a longer delay, before flying on to Bangkok. The connecting flight will again be with Thai Air, but unlike the first option you will have to re check your luggage from the Turkish flight onto the connecting flight. Transfers as before.  The accommodation will be on the same resort as the bungalows, but will be of a budget twin room, of a motel standard.

Resort

The resort is set on a hillside, with some fantastic views over the sea.  Amenities include Pool, Bar, TV area, excursions offered, etc.  It is run by a Swiss owner and his Thai wife. With this combination you cannot expect anything less than an idyllic location.

Both accommodation choices will include a continental buffet style breakfast each morning, served in the typical Thai thatched open sided restaurant.

Local soft sand beach is a 3 or 4 minute walk from the accommodation.  The sea front village is very secluded with bars, local and European restaurants,  massage houses, gift shops, bike/car hire, etc.

Diving

The Diving will be from a hard boat, leaving either from a local jetty, or by a short transfer by long tail boat from shore to dive vessel, depending on dive site for that day.  The dive vessel is of a high quality, carrying 18 persons.  Diving includes 15 dives over 7 days, in varies locations including, including Phi Phi Islands, and Koh Ha Yai, with some fantastic coral reefs, wrecks, and drifts.  A Thai lunch is served daily on the dive days, with as much soft drink and water you require.  Visibility is usually around 40m or so, temp around 29/30 oc if you wish to dive on further days, you will need to purchase these days diving with the resort.

Activities

For those that wish to get involved in something a little different from normal, this is the place to do it.  There is a multitude of activities including Elephant rides through the jungle, Sea/ Tidal canoeing through sea swamps and jungle, Trips to James Bond Island, Buddhist Temples, and many other choice of activities and locations.

Summary

As you are now aware this is a long haul trip for two weeks, in a beautiful location with some of the best diving in the World.  Accommodation is of a very high standard, in an idyllic location.  Many other activities on offer, (no excuse to be bored, unless you enjoy being bored of course).
